Reading barcode / datacode matrix with artificial vision systems has some advantages compared to reading with barcode readers:

Successfully reading barcodes in dark, torn or unfocused images

When barcode reading is part of the process (such as reference selection and checking according to the barcode read), reading with the camera is more meaningful.

For some difficult situations, such as reading under nylon (shrink) packaging, appropriate lighting conditions can be created and still high accuracy reading is possible only with the camera.
